Hyenas look very similar to that of dogs, but they are actually relatives to the cat family. They have fur which is either gray-brown or sand colored with dark spots. When compared to their hind legs, their front legs are much longer than the former. Africa is the home for these sly animals, but they are also found in a few parts of Southern Asia.
The hyenas are basically built to kill, they are capable of taking down animals which are as huge as the zebras. They make for very talented scavengers and they are show no fear while protecting their kill from other predators, including the lions. Their jaws are designed to have amazing bone-crunching strength and surprisingly, their digestive system is remarkably adaptable to digest the skin and bones and other animal parts which no other animal can handle.
The largest of all the hyena species is the cunning spotted hyena which can weigh up to a solid 150 pounds. If these spotted hyenas are submitting to their other members of the pack, they would make it clear by emitting different sounds, the hyenas laugh is one of the famous sounds.
The largest hyena species that have ever been know to have lived is the giant hyena. This giant species is almost the size of a huge lion and was believed to be able to easily crush a elephants bone. They are very intelligent and they cooperate and socialize just like the way baboons and monkeys do.

Hippopotamus are really huge and hairless. They weigh around 4.5 tons and are considered to be one of the giant quadrupeds on Earth. It has a very thick body with a bluish-black skin with a few brick-red marks. It has few hair on its thin tail, ecepting for that, it is entirely hairless.
It has hoofed feet with membranes which stretch between its four toes, this enables them to move easily in the water. The fat beneath their skin enables them to easily float in water. The hippos are very friendly to the watery environment.
They have sweat glads which are a little modified. They secrete moist, reddish substance which is amazing in protecting them from insect bites, especially from mosquitoes. And, it also makes for a wonderful sunblock for them.

Armadillos, sloths and anteaters all belong to one big happy family. Just like their relatives, the armadillos are also insectivorous. The giant armadillo, large hairy armadillo , the nine-banded weird armadillo, pichi and the naked-tailed armadillo, all belong to the big armadillo species. Of all the species, by far the giant armadillo is the largest of its species and can weigh up to 60 pounds. These giants can be found in the South Americas Anazon River basin, but unfortunately this species is considered to be endangered because of habitat loss and hunting.
In each of the armadillo species, there is slight difference in their appearance, the difference is suggested in their names. But, all of the armadillo species are covered in armored plates which are nothing but hardened skin on their backs, limbs, sides and tail. The armor is a very good source for the armadillos to protect themselves from their predators. On their front feet, they have a very huge claw which is usually used to dig up the soil so that they can look for food like small insects and animals.

Most of the salamanders come in different patterns and colors. Their bright colors is considered to be a warning signal to its predators that it could contain very lethal poison. They have very sleek and slender bodies with four similar sized legs, small eyes, small head and a tail which is detachable for a few species. Once the tail is detached, it will twitch. And, this is just a trap to distract the predator so that the salamander can make a clean escape.
A few salamander species are capable of making homes in waters. But, the rest of them are maily terrestrial. The salamanders which live in waters take oxygen through their large external gills.

Wolverine belongs to the largest carnivore family known as the mustelid. This is one of the largest carnivore family present and it includes otters, skunks, polecats, badgers, minks and obviously our very own wolverine. These mammals are found in Canada, East Asia and United States. And after the giant otters, these are the second largest mammals that come under the mustelid family. They usually have blackish and a little pale bands all along its rump and sides.
Wolverine is one of the most powerful animals and it has very strong jaws. It has a special molar teeth on top of its jaw which is turned about 90 degrees which are very powerful in crunching the frozen bone or meat. When it is in search for food, it is perfectly capable of covering over 30 miles just in a day. And, it definitely does not have any problem in running down its poor victims.
They are small but very scrappy. They are as tall as a medium-sized dos. They are very much capable of attacking animals which are much larger in size like the deer and the moose. When it is threatened, it can give very unbearable and unpleasant odor. It has been nicknamed as ‘nasty cat’ and ‘skunk bear’.

Rhinoceros is a very ancient animal and has a very massive body. Because of its touch and rough plate like skin and about one or two horns protruding from its snout, s animal sure seems to have never evolved from the weird prehistoric ancestry. They are usually found in the savannas of Africa and also in the grasslands of Asia. Most of them are nocturnal browsers or are very solitary. These huge mammals might look very ferocious, but in reality they are very timid.
Their horns are considered to be very priced possession. And, due to overhunting, the rhinoceros are an endangered species today. In china, the rhinoceros horn is used in drugs to reduce fevers ans in Yemen, it is used to create dagger handles. Although this is considered to be a protected species, there is a lot of habitat loss due to continuous poaching.
Unfortunately, these gentle mammals have poor eye sight. But their amazing sense of smell and sharp hearing makes it up for their poor eye sight.

Well, it is a very known fact that they main causing factor for global warming is human activities. The evidence of human contribution for global warming is very strong. But, when it comes to the question of doing something about it, always remains controversial. To plan for a better future, politics, economics and sociology play very important factors.
Even if we wake up today and try very hard to stop emitting the greenhouse gases, our mother Earth would still become warm just by a Fahrenheit or so. However, we cannot neglect the fact that, f we start working on it today, we might have a little better future tomorrow. The scientists have predicted that our Earth will get a little warm by about 2.5 to 10 degree Fahrenheit.
So, a very common goal to reduce the impact of global warming is to concentrate on stabilizing the GHG ( greenhouse gases) up to 450-550 per million. Scientists believe that, this can be the point at which the horrible global warming impact can be avoided. At the moment, the greenhouse gases is at 380 per million, meaning, we don’t really have much time to lose.
But the Question is – Can We Do It?
Most of the governments and the common people are already trying very hard to cut down on the greehouse gases. Each and every individual can contribute to reduce the emission. In recent times, a few scientists have come up with the concept called ‘stabilization wedges’. Through this strategy, in the next few decades, several technologies are going to be made available so that the GHG emission is reduced. The scientists suggest that we have about 7 stabilized wedges.
Apart from working on reducing the emission of gases, we can also concentrate on increasing the amount of gases to be taken out from the atmosphere. Since plants and trees are known to absorb carbon dioxide, we can increase the forestland . And, t the same time, e can chage the way our farm land works so that the maximum amount of carbon is taken out from our surroundings making our Earth a healthy and safe place to live again.
A deer tick is more popular for spreading diseases that for its own characteristics. These loathsome ticks are known as black-legged ticks. They belong to the arachnid family and are known for being blood-sucking. These blood-thirsty creatures came into public consciousness late in mid-1970s. It was discovered to be the only primary vector or transmitter of Lyme disease.
Lyme disease is not really fatal but but is a debilitating infection. Unfortunately, this disease was often misdiagnosed for flu because, he early symptoms almost resemble the disease. The person infected with the Lyme disease usually has a very slowly spreading eye rash just where the tick is attached, but the bull-eye shape rash is not always seen. If this rash is left untreated with strong antibiotic, the patient is capable of contracting many health problems like heart palpitations, facial paralysis, arthritis, neurological disorders and severe headaches.
These deer ticks can live for about two years and have about four life phases, which are the egg, larva, nymph and the adult phase. They usually feed on animal blood and surprisingly all through their life time, hey eat only three times. They eat when they transform from larva to nymph. The second time when they transform from nymph phase to adult. And, the third time when they transform from the adult phase to laying eggs. They are like the infected host that carry the bacteria causing the Lyme disease. But, they are capable of transmitting it only from their second or third phase. If the bacteria has to be transmitted, they have to be attached to the victim for at least 24 hours.
At the moment, Lyme disease is considered to be one of the super fast growing disease in the United States. Each year, about 14,000 cases are known to have been reported. And unfortunately, because these symptoms almost resemble the symptoms of flu, the Lyme disease goes away almost untreated.
Spiders belong to the arachnid class and have two important body segments: the first is the cephalothorax and the other is the abdomen. They are unique from other arachnids because of their unique ability to produce beautiful silk. They use the silk to capture the prey by weaving elaborate webs. And, they also use it from moving from one place o another.
Most of the spiders are toxin. They have venom infecting fangs which are usually used by them to kill their innocent preys. A few spiders will inject its victim with neurotoxin, which can affect its nervous system and leads to paralysis. On the other hand, the other spider species will inject cytotoxin which can affect the cellular tissue of the victim.
They have two extra hands know as the pedipalps, which are located at its head. A spider can use these hands in different ways. The main function of these pedipalps is to bring food to the spider’s mouth. For the male adult spider, the pedipalps are used to transfer the sperm while it mates. They also use them for sensing the environment and they can easily pick the air currents, vibrations and even scent.
It is observed that, shortly after mating, the female spider would kill the male spider. By feeding to the female spider, the male spider would ensure that the fertilized eggs would result in carrying on his genes. But, a few spiders sacrifice a fly or any other meal instead of self-sacrifice.
In spite of being very small, hummingbirds are sure a huge of energy. They are very colorful and have different dazzling colors. These are the only birds which have the amazing ability to fly both backwards as well as upside down. This is because the way their wings are structured. They rapidly beat their wings. An average hummingbird can almost flap its wings approximately up to 80 times a second.
Every year, this adorable hummingbird migrates all the way from Central America to the cold Canada. Well, this would be almost 2,000 miles. For this long journey, it gets all its energy by sipping a little nectar each time it takes a break. Their shape and size of their bill usually matches the unique shape of one of their favorite flower.
These birds are very tiny, so even the largest of the hummingbird will still remain tiny. The largest of all the hummingbirds is cutely named as the giant hummingbird, and surprisingly this not-so-giant-bird weighs only 8.ounces, which is almost just 23 grams. On the other hand, the smallest hummingbird specie is known as the bee hummingbird. The bee humming bird is the world’s smallest bird and weighs about 0.06 ounces, which is almost 1.6 grams.
Interesting Facts
• A hummingbird is know as the helicopter bird because of its wonderful ability to rotate its wings circular and be able to move upwards, sideways, downwards or simply hove in the midair. This is the only bird which can move in all directions.
• Surprisingly, a hummingbird can approximately assess the sugar content in nectar. If it is less than 12% percent, it would simply reject it. It requires nectar which has a minimum of 25% of sugar content.
